Ionuț Alexandru Toader, a lecturer at the Faculty of Law of the “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iași and the son of former Justice Minister Tudorel Toader, was detained on Friday in a case involving sexual allegations made by two former students. Prosecutors asked the court to order his pretrial detention for 30 days.
According to judicial sources, he is being investigated for rape. The allegations became public in November 2025, when the two young women said they had allegedly been subjected to intimate propositions and pressure in connection with passing exams. One of them claimed to have had intimate relations with the lecturer, including in his office at the faculty. The information was initially reported by the publication Reporter de Iași.
Iași police launched an investigation ex officio. The inquiry seeks to establish the facts and responsibilities, while the allegations are to be examined by prosecutors and the court.
In a message posted on Facebook on Friday, Tudorel Toader said the investigation was an attack against him. He accused a female lawyer, whose name he did not disclose, of allegedly influencing the statements of the two students in order to gain advantages in her own cases. These claims have not been officially confirmed.
