The Minister of Energy, Bogdan Ivan, announced that he will terminate the contract with Duro Felguera, the company responsible for the construction of the 430 MW power plant in Iernut, due to non-fulfillment of obligations. He will also execute the performance bond, estimated at tens of millions of lei. Although the works have been reported as being 97-98% completed, Ivan mentioned that there remains a remainder of under 10%, and completion could take another 6-9 months. The initial contract was signed in 2016 but was previously terminated in 2021 due to delays. The Spanish company is facing financial problems and a corruption investigation in Spain.
