Bogdan Ivan, the Minister of Energy, reaffirmed that Romania pays some of the highest energy prices in Europe, a situation caused by decisions made in the last ten years, which led to the decommissioning of approximately 7,000 MW of gas and coal production capacities, replaced by only 1,200 MW. Ivan emphasized that, although Romania received 2.6 billion euros to replace coal-fired power plants, this money has not been used efficiently. He called for a review of the legislation in the energy sector, mentioning that the current rules are immoral. Another criticized aspect is the lack of energy storage capacities, despite funding for solar panels. Ivan proposed better coordination of investments in energy, redirecting funds towards storage projects and large production capacities, such as nuclear and hydro.
