The mayor of the municipality of Sfântu Gheorghe, Antal Arpad (UDMR), stated that the taxes on housing for individuals will be maintained at the minimum level allowed by law, considering housing a fundamental right. In contrast, taxes on automobiles will be increased to discourage the growth in the number of cars and urban discomfort.
The mayor explained that taxes on housing, land, and automobiles represent only 4% of the total revenues of the municipality, and the collected money is used for the cleaning of the city. He also mentioned that the tax changes are related to the commitments made through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) with the European Union. The mayor emphasized the importance of communication with citizens and announced public meetings to explain the local budget and the use of funds. The Local Council decided that taxes on housing will remain at a minimum in 2026, while those on automobiles will be differentiated based on pollution standards.
