Huniade Castle in Timișoara, the oldest medieval building in the city, will be fully rehabilitated by 2028, after being closed to the public for 18 years. Rehabilitation works have recently begun, including the stripping of the ceilings to strengthen the foundations, during which medieval walls from the 14th and 15th centuries were discovered, including a 14th-century donjon. The total value of the rehabilitation project is 134 million lei, of which 88 million are non-reimbursable funds. The Vice President of the Timiș County Council, Alexandru Iovescu, mentioned that the works to improve the foundation of the marble hall are underway, with an execution rate of 10%. It is estimated that certain areas of the castle will be open to the public in 2027, and the complete rehabilitation will be finished in 2028.
