The Constitutional Court of Romania (CCR) rejected the complaint filed by AUR regarding the increase in local taxes, thus validating the Government Bolojan's fiscal reform package II. According to the new regulations, taxes and duties will increase by 75% starting January 1, 2026. The law was adopted through the Government's assumption of responsibility and includes measures for fiscal optimization, ensuring equal treatment for taxpayers, and restructuring outdated tax facilities. Among the new taxes is a fee of 25 lei for packages from outside the European Union, which will come into effect on the same date. Additionally, the CCR removed the articles regarding polygraph tests for ANAF employees and other institutions, retaining the psychological integrity assessment. The Government justifies these measures by the need to reduce the budget deficit, the largest in the EU. AUR previously challenged the law, but the CCR only partially accepted the complaint, requesting amendments, and the Government redrafted the law, which was again adopted by Parliament.
