The Minister of Finance, Alexandru Nazare, after the Constitutional Court changed the deadline for ruling on the local tax law: "The bullet has passed us by. On December 10, it is clear that it is good, we have enough time so that this legislative package can be promulgated in 2025 to be applied from January 1."
The Constitutional Court of Romania has decided to advance the hearing date for the complaint filed by AUR regarding the law that provides for an increase in property taxes. Thus, the hearing date has been moved from January 21, 2026, to December 10, 2025. This decision has been considered favorable to the Government, according to statements by Alexandru Nazare.
The CCR's decision comes in a context where the increase in property taxes has generated controversies and debates in the public space, and AUR contests the legality of this measure. By advancing the deadline, a quicker clarification of the legal situation regarding property taxation is expected.
"On December 10, it is clear that it is good, that it is in the year 2025 and we have enough time so that this legislative package can be promulgated in 2025 to be applied from January 1. The problem was that it could no longer be applied from January 1 if the discussion took place in January or February next year," said Alexandru Nazare on Thursday evening, on Digi 24.
