The Control Body of the Prime Minister (CCPM) found that SALROM underestimated the risk of flooding in underground spaces, and the protective measures were inadequate. The Minister of the Environment claims that the dismissal of the former director of the Romanian Waters was justified.
The Prime Minister's Control Body has completed the checks at SALROM and Apele Române, following the flood at the Praid salt mine.
The conclusions show that SALROM has consistently underestimated the risk of flooding, considering it not to be an imminent danger.
The implemented protection measures were minimal and lacked a clear strategy, focusing on temporary maintenance works without eliminating long-term risks. The annual exploitation programs were formally approved, without clear technical rules, which hindered holding those responsible accountable. The Minister of the Environment highlighted that the report brings to the forefront the need for reforms at Apele Române to ensure the protection of the country's water resources.
