Doru-Dragoș Cazan has returned to lead the National Administration “Apele Române” after Environment Minister Natalia Intotero revoked the order terminating his mandate, signed by her predecessor, Diana Buzoianu. The decision was made five days after the ministry’s new political leadership took office, according to statements by the former minister.
The director’s return prompted reactions from USR and Diana Buzoianu, who mocked the fact that he had apparently emerged from a succession of medical leaves at the same time as the ministry’s leadership changed. Buzoianu claimed that Cazan had been on medical leave for approximately four months, with diagnoses frequently changed. The institutions notified to verify the medical leaves—the Health Insurance House and the College of Physicians—have so far found no irregularities, according to the former minister.
The conflict between the two began in June, following inspections into illegal extraction of mineral aggregates in Olt County. Buzoianu spoke of two gravel pits occupying approximately 100 hectares and causing estimated damage of 20 million lei. The dispute is also part of the conflict over the “Gravel Pits Radar” application, whose implementation is being challenged by USR and PSD.
