According to a study conducted by the Spirits Romania Association, 20% of Romanians admit to having driven after consuming alcohol, and 76% of them claim they did not consider themselves drunk, but just had a little to drink.

The study, carried out between July 26 – August 4, 2025, highlighted concerning habits and perceptions among drivers. Almost two-thirds of respondents stated that they have people in their circle who drive after consuming alcohol. Although 76.5% would not accept to be passengers in a car driven by a drunk driver, 11.57% would ignore the situation depending on the circumstances.

Romanians believe that stricter enforcement of the law and increased penalties are priorities for reducing road accidents.
