A tragic accident occurred on Saturday evening, around 21:55, in the locality of Gelu, Timiș, when a 49-year-old man, under the influence of alcohol, hit two girls on bicycles. One of them, aged 10, was found in a state of unconsciousness and died shortly after, despite resuscitation efforts. The other girl, aged 11, was transported to the hospital, being conscious and cooperative.
After the accident, the driver left the scene, but was quickly identified by the police. Tested with a breathalyzer, he had a concentration of 1.33 mg/l of pure alcohol in the exhaled air. The man was detained for 24 hours, being accused of bodily harm through negligence, manslaughter, driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, and leaving the scene of the accident without the authorities' consent.
