Sebastian Burduja, the president of PNL Bucharest, stated that he will not run for the Capital City Hall, emphasizing that PNL has valuable options to designate a liberal mayor. He explained that, after the government decision to set the date for local elections is adopted, the Bureau for Bucharest will meet to make proposals, which will be validated by the National Political Bureau. Burduja mentioned that decisions will be based on rigorous analyses, considering the economic importance of Bucharest, which significantly contributes to the country's GDP.
He also warned about the risks of elections organized in a single round, emphasizing that a weakening of the governing coalition could lead to a mayor from an isolationist party, a scenario that PNL must avoid. Burduja proposed open primary elections to facilitate the selection of the best candidate. He encouraged the Bucharest electorate to make a useful vote, mentioning that voters are informed and that excessive rhetoric and internal conflicts can affect the results.
