The PNL is maintaining its proposal for the position of prime minister, Siegfried Mureșan, despite the praise expressed by President Nicușor Dan for Finance Minister Alexandru Nazare. The clarification was made by Bucharest Mayor Ciprian Ciucu during an appearance on B1 TV.
Ciucu said that the party’s National Political Bureau had not changed its decision and that the liberals had not put forward another proposal to lead the Government. “We have no other proposal. We have stayed with the same idea regarding Mr. Mureșan and we are consistent,” the mayor said.
In his personal opinion, Ciucu described Alexandru Nazare as a professional and said he had worked very well with him, including in support of the Bucharest administration. He stressed, however, that these views did not represent the official position of the PNL.
Speaking at Nazare’s wedding, Nicușor Dan said that the Finance Minister was a professional and someone he had worked well with, but noted that appointing a prime minister requires political support from 233 votes.
Ciucu also rejected reports of a possible suspension of the president, calling the idea “irresponsible” at a time when Romania does not have a government with full powers. According to him, the issue had not been discussed within the PNL.
