Following the devastating floods of 2025, the European Commission announced the proposal to mobilize 144 million euros from the European Union Solidarity Fund to support Romania, Spain, and Cyprus. Romania was affected in May and June by severe floods in the Central, South Muntenia, and North East regions, with significant damage at Salina Praid, where the waters of the Corund River eroded the riverbed.

The Commission proposes 14.3 million euros to help restore infrastructure and ensure essential services. Spain will receive the largest amount, over 120 million euros, to recover infrastructure affected by extreme weather phenomena. Cyprus, affected by fires, is set to receive 9.2 million euros. The funds require approval from the European Parliament and the Council to be disbursed. Since its establishment, the EU Solidarity Fund has provided over 10 billion euros for disaster assistance.
