The Secretary of State in the Ministry of Transport, Ionel Scrișteanu, stated that the revision of the environmental agreement for the Sibiu - Pitești highway is the most important undertaking of the year 2026. In August, the opening of the first tunnel between Curtea de Argeș and Tigveni is expected. Scrișteanu emphasized the importance of finalizing this revision in order to issue construction permits for the remaining sections. He also estimated that 2026 will be a record year for high-speed infrastructure in Romania, with approximately 250 km of highway and express road scheduled to be opened to traffic. Among the important projects are the Moldova highway and the Bucharest ring road. Additionally, Romania will build 5.5 km of highway in the Republic of Moldova and 14 km in Ukraine, part of the Suceava - Siret Express Road. Scrișteanu also mentioned the progress in the construction of the Ungheni Bridge, which will be completed in 2026, and highlighted the effective collaboration with the Moldovan authorities.
