PSD President Sorin Grindeanu announced that the party will form a committee to analyze electoral legislation, as snap elections are considered an increasingly likely scenario amid political disagreements. The decision was adopted during the meeting of the PSD National Permanent Bureau.
The committee will comprise Marian Neacșu, Ovidiu Popa, Daniel Zamfir, the leader of the PSD group in the Chamber of Deputies, and the leader of the group in the Senate. They are to analyze the legislative framework applicable if snap elections are triggered.
Sorin Grindeanu said that PSD does not want this scenario, but that the party will be prepared if it becomes inevitable. The Social Democratic leader warned that a period of three to four months of political confrontations could delay the economic recovery and undermine investor confidence.
According to Grindeanu, Romania could even face the risk of “national bankruptcy.” He called for responsibility and reason, arguing that, in the absence of a functioning government, the solution could be to return to the polls so that voters can decide the country’s political direction.
