Petrom, in collaboration with the Israelis from NewMed Energy, has announced the start of exploratory drilling in the gas perimeter Han Asparuh, located in the territorial waters of Bulgaria. This initiative marks a significant step in strengthening Petrom's presence in the Black Sea, considering that simultaneous drilling is also taking place in the Neptun Deep perimeter in Romania, where gas extraction is expected in 2027. The drilling vessel Globetrotter I has already arrived in Bulgaria, and the first well, Vinekh-1, will be drilled to a depth of approximately 2,000 meters.

The drilling campaign, with a budget of 170 million euros, will include two wells and is estimated to last five months. Petrom, with over 40 years of experience in the Black Sea, emphasizes its commitment to the energy security of the region, while NewMed Energy is expanding its operations in Southeast Europe.
