Mayor Florin Birta announced that Oradea will become a pet-friendly city by adopting a unified regulation regarding their access to public and private spaces. The document, which was subject to public debate for over 60 days, was modified based on 25 petitions and 300 proposals received online.

The regulation has a high chance of being adopted, considering the PNL majority in the local council. Birta emphasized that the purpose of the regulation is to establish clear coexistence rules, without privileges or unjustified restrictions. Among the measures included are walking dogs on a leash in public areas, prohibitions in playgrounds and educational institutions, as well as promoting owner responsibility through training and behavioral assessments.

Additionally, restaurants and cafes can become 'pet friendly', and the Grivei Shelter will be transformed into an adoption center. The municipality will expand the infrastructure for pets, creating new recreational areas and managing stray cats.
