The Norwegian Ministry of Defence has announced the acquisition of two additional submarines from Germany, as well as long-range missiles, as part of efforts to strengthen national defense. The prices for this equipment are significantly higher than those of previous orders, due to increased demand for armaments.

In 2021, Norway had already ordered four submarines from Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems, with deliveries scheduled to begin in 2029. Defence Minister Tore O. Sandvik emphasized the importance of submarines for the country's defense, considering the increased activity of Russian forces in nearby maritime regions. The Norwegian government will propose a budget increase of 46 billion crowns to cover the costs of the acquisitions, and the long-range missiles will be able to reach targets at distances of up to 500 km.
