President Nicușor Dan has promulgated a law that requires hotels, guesthouses, travel agencies, visa issuance centers, and recruitment firms to display information and warning messages regarding human trafficking.
The law, initiated by USR deputy Oana Murariu, targets high-risk areas and imposes fines between 200 and 1,000 lei for operators who do not comply with these obligations. Murariu emphasized that Romania is one of the countries with the highest number of human trafficking victims in Europe, and the new regulation aims to strengthen prevention and education about the risks.
The warning messages will include contact information for support and will be available in Romanian and English. The law was adopted in February, in the context of an increase in human trafficking cases in Romania, which remains both a country of origin and destination for victims.
