The Ministry of Defense announces, on Tuesday, new attacks by the Russian Federation north of the Danube, which is why four aircraft were scrambled. Their commanders had approval for "engaging aerial targets if they entered national airspace," but no unauthorized incursions were detected.
"New attacks by the Russian Federation north of the Danube
On the night of November 3 to 4, the forces of the Russian Federation carried out two attacks on Ukrainian port infrastructure located on the Danube River. Following these actions, numerous explosions were observed on the Ukrainian shore.
As a result of signals detected by surveillance systems, two F-16 aircraft deployed at Fetești Air Base were scrambled at 00:17, and two German Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft deployed at Mihail Kogălniceanu Air Base were scrambled at 02:45 for reconnaissance and ensuring the security of national airspace.
The mission commanders had approval for engaging aerial targets if they entered national airspace and posed a threat to the security of Romanian citizens.
No unauthorized incursions into Romanian airspace were detected, and no debris from aerial vehicles was identified on national territory.
The Ministry of National Defense firmly condemns the attacks by the Russian Federation on Ukrainian civilian infrastructure, actions that represent a serious violation of international law and a threat to regional security. Romania remains in constant contact with NATO allies and the European Union and maintains a high level of vigilance and readiness," the Ministry of Defense stated in a press release on Tuesday.
