A medical premiere took place at the Bagdasar-Arseni Emergency Clinical Hospital in Bucharest, where a 20-year-old young man underwent brain surgery to remove a brain tumor, being awake and communicating with the doctors during the procedure.
His diagnosis was a large infiltrative tumor located in the area responsible for language. The intervention lasted 10 hours and required modern mapping and neuromonitoring techniques to identify and preserve the brain areas essential for speech. Dr. Viorel Mihai Prună, the doctor who led the team, emphasized the importance of maintaining the patient's communication ability, who recovered very well postoperatively. This innovative approach marked an important step in neurosurgery, demonstrating the effectiveness of communication during complex surgical interventions.
