In May, neurosurgeons at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London performed the world's first surgery assisted by artificial intelligence for the removal of a brain tumor, saving the vision of 48-year-old patient Rhys Hibbert. The details of the surgery were kept secret until August 27, to allow the patient to recover.

During the procedure, the AI system analyzed live images, helping the surgical team identify key structures to avoid, such as nerves and blood vessels, near the 11 mm tumor on the pituitary gland. Hibbert stated that, a week after the surgery, he was able to walk on his own and return to work. The AI technology used was developed to help surgeons recognize critical anatomical structures, reducing the risks associated with delicate procedures. Without surgery, Hibbert risked becoming blind due to the worsening of his symptoms.
