UDMR President Kelemen Hunor stated on Tuesday, at Parliament, that Senator Antal István-Loránt should not have been on the private plane that transported several public figures and businesspeople to Mykonos in July. The UDMR leader specified that the senator had no mandate from the party for this trip.
“He had no business being on that plane, as a senator and committee chairman,” Kelemen Hunor said. He stated that Antal István-Loránt had sent him a message about the situation, but the two did not have a more extensive discussion.
The UDMR leader described the senator’s participation as a mistake and argued that the trip had no “political meaning.”
“The electorate will punish us, each of us, for what we do,” Kelemen Hunor added.
The presence of the UDMR senator on the plane was revealed after the publication of flight data by the NewsCenter outlet. Also on board were former minister Florin Manole, former prime minister Victor Ponta, CCR judge Cristian Deliorga, and businessman Gruia Stoica, who was definitively convicted of influence peddling.
According to the passengers’ statements, the trip was allegedly organized and paid for by the Romanian Chamber of Commerce.
The institution’s president, Mihai Daraban, said that the purpose of the visit was to meet with American partners who were in Mykonos.
