Two judges from the Bucharest Court of Appeal explained the acquittal of General Cristian Radu, former deputy of IGSU, accused of five offenses following a car accident in November 2021. Although Radu requested to replace the sentence of 3 years and 6 months with a fine, the court decided that there was not enough evidence to convict him. The case was complicated by another defendant who admitted to the facts and was sentenced to a suspended sentence. The judges emphasized that the traces of blood on the airbag do not prove serious injuries, and Radu claimed that they came from a superficial cut of his driver. Additionally, the court found that there was not enough evidence to support the accusation of incitement to intellectual forgery. In conclusion, the Court established that there is no clear evidence that Radu was aware of the injuries suffered by his passenger, and the mere existence of phone calls cannot substantiate a conviction. Radu was promoted to general after the accident and was later placed in reserve.
