Five Romanians, led by Marian Cumpănașoiu, have been sentenced in Scotland for rapes and sexual abuses against ten women, whom they drugged and exploited in apartments in Dundee. Cumpănașoiu received a 24-year sentence, while the other group members received sentences ranging from 8 to 20 years. The judge emphasized that the group took advantage of the victims' vulnerability. Three of the convicted initially fled but were extradited.
The group's activities were discovered following a police operation targeting the trafficking of women from Eastern Europe. The victims were manipulated with drugs and forced into prostitution. Cumpănașoiu was described as a ruthless leader, and prosecutors presented video evidence illustrating his abusive behavior. The conviction was the result of a six-week trial, during which detailed testimonies about the abuses suffered by the women were presented.
