The data from the ENTSO-E platform indicates that on Wednesday, electricity consumption in Romania was close to the forecasted maximum, reaching values up to 230 MW above estimates, but later decreasing by 500 MW.
The estimated maximum threshold for that day was 7,060 MW, forecasted for 19:45, when Romanians turn on their electrical appliances.
Higher consumption is expected in the coming days, with estimates of 7,250 MW on Thursday and 7,200 MW on Friday.
Compared to previous weeks, consumption was lower, and the highest consumption recorded was 7,707 MW on August 5.
During the period from August 13 to 18, consumption was below forecasts, except for the day of August 17.
The forecasted peak for the end of the year is estimated at 8,432 MW, which would represent a record consumption.
Romania has been in a state of energy alert since August 1, due to the shutdown of the unit in Cernavodă and the reduction of hydroelectric production. The interim Prime Minister confirmed that the energy deficit is covered through various sources, including imports.
On Wednesday evening, at 21:05, Romania recorded a consumption of 6,959 MW and a production of 5,088 MW, thus importing 1,870 MW, according to real-time data from Transelectrica.
The main production sources:
32.85% – Hydro: 1,648 MW
29.19% – Hydrocarbons: 1,464 MW
24.32% – Coal: 1,220 MW
9.79% – Storage installations: 491 MW
2.93% – Wind: 147 MW
1.20% – Biomass: 60 MW
0.00% – Nuclear: 0 MW
