Romania recorded on Wednesday evening one of the highest levels of electricity consumption this year, exceeding 7,600 MW after 8:00 PM, according to Transelectrica data.
Around 9:30 PM, consumption reached a peak of over 7,700 MW, being the third highest level of the summer, after the records on June 29 and 30, when consumption exceeded 7,900 MW.
Domestic production covered only 5,300 MW, with the rest being supplied through imports. The annual consumption record was set on January 21, when the demand reached over 9,200 MW.
This increase in consumption is recorded under conditions of heatwave and drought, which affect national energy production.
Authorities' calls to reduce consumption in the evening hours had no significant impact.
