Romania set a new record for wind energy on Monday morning: wind power accounted for over 41% of national production

Romania recorded a new two-year peak in wind power generation this morning. At 9:14 a.m., wind turbines were supplying 2,866 megawatts to the National Energy System, according to real-time data analyzed by Economedia.

Wind-generated power accounted for 41.27% of total national production, while Romania’s wind farms have an installed capacity of approximately 3,100 megawatts. The data therefore indicate a high level of utilization of the available capacity.

Together, wind and solar power accounted for more than 63% of the National Energy System’s instantaneous production at the time analyzed. The contribution of renewable sources thus exceeded the combined output of the other energy sources active at that hour.

The peak was reached in the first part of the day, amid increased production from wind farms. The level subsequently began to decline. At the time of writing, wind power accounted for 38.25% of total national production, according to the SEN platform. The increased share of renewable sources reflects rapid fluctuations in energy production depending on weather conditions.
