The law project adopted by the Government establishes a 12-month reflection period for public officials, prohibiting them from making decisions or entering into contracts with private entities where they have worked in the last year. After the end of their mandate, they cannot work in areas that could generate conflicts of interest without favorable advice. The project includes strict obligations to declare employment intentions and lists of incompatible fields for each official.
The National Integrity Agency (ANI) will monitor compliance with these rules, having the power to impose sanctions. Sanctions for non-compliance with obligations have been reduced, and former authorities can be excluded from public functions for up to three years. The adoption of this project comes in response to international recommendations to combat the 'revolving door' phenomenon and to strengthen trust in public institutions.
