The President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, promulgated on Tuesday the law that modifies the Statute of Deputies and Senators and introduces the Unique Register of Transparency of Interests (RUTI), a public platform designed to monitor interactions between parliamentarians and third parties. The new regulation requires elected officials to register in RUTI meetings with representatives of civil society, the business environment, or professional organizations 48 hours in advance, while spontaneous meetings must be reported within a maximum of 48 hours after they take place.
The law, validated by the Constitutional Court, provides for penalties for non-compliance and is considered by the head of state an essential step in increasing the transparency of the legislative process and in Romania's path towards joining the OECD.
