President Nicușor Dan will attend the Rule of Law Forum in Bucharest on Tuesday, organized in the presence of a delegation from the Venice Commission. Discussions will focus on judicial independence, respect for the principles of the rule of law, and their influence on elections.
Officials from the Venice Commission and representatives of Romania’s main institutions are expected to attend the debate. The meeting is taking place in the context of the delegation’s visit to Bucharest for the “2026 Rule of Law Forum,” dedicated to assessing and strengthening democratic standards.
On Monday, members of the Venice Commission met with interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan at Victoria Palace. He emphasized that citizens’ trust in the justice system depends on the quality of legislation, as well as on the consistency, balance, and predictability of decisions.
Also on Monday, the delegation led by Marta Cartabia held talks with Simina Tănăsescu, president of the Constitutional Court. Cartabia said that the rule of law must be accessible to the general public and represent a component of a shared democratic culture, not merely a field reserved for legal professionals.
