Nicușor Dan, after discussions with the delegation of the Venice Commission: Dialogue with European experts is essential for strengthening democracy

President Nicusor Dan reaffirmed on Monday Romania’s commitment to institutional balance, transparency and respect for European standards on democracy and the rule of law, during a meeting with the delegation of the Venice Commission.

The discussion was led by Marta Cartabia, president of the Venice Commission. According to the head of state, the meeting focused on strengthening the rule of law, the role of democratic institutions and respect for constitutional principles.

Nicusor Dan said that dialogue with European experts is essential for strengthening democracy and maintaining functioning institutions based on clear rules and respect for the Constitution.

“During the meeting, I reconfirmed our commitment to institutional balance, transparency and respect for European standards in the area of democracy and the rule of law,” the president said in a post published on Facebook on Monday.

The meeting takes place in the context of cooperation between the Romanian authorities and European bodies specializing in assessing and strengthening the rule of law.
