Context: the conflict with Bacău Airport and the blocking of certain receipts preceded Dan Air’s insolvency filing
Before the Ilfov Tribunal admitted Dan Air’s insolvency filing, the company was already in conflict with Bacău’s “George Enescu” Airport, which requested the opening of insolvency proceedings against the operator on October 29 and made the continuation of handling services conditional on additional payments. Dan Air contested the action and said that more than 83% of the alleged arrears were at most 33 days overdue, while the company had paid 100,000 lei and negotiated a debt repayment schedule; at the same time, the operator stated that it had also submitted its own reorganization petition on October 22.
The company also cited the blocking of more than 900,000 euros collected from passengers through the NETOPIA payment processor, amid which it reported temporary financial difficulties. As a result of the disputes, Dan Air subsequently announced the temporary relocation of all flights to Bucharest’s “Henri Coandă” Airport, starting November 4, with passengers to be contacted and able to request a full ticket refund under the terms of European Regulation 261/2004.
