Cristian Anton, the head of the Romanian Road Authority (ARR), was detained on Tuesday by DNA prosecutors, according to judicial sources. The investigation revealed significant sums of money, initially 350,000 euros found in his residences in Bucharest and Timișoara, hidden in cardboard boxes, and later the total exceeded 500,000 euros. Anti-corruption prosecutors conducted over 20 searches as part of a case targeting corruption offenses and the establishment of an organized criminal group, including at the ARR headquarters and at the homes of several individuals. The investigated offenses include bribery, influence peddling, and the establishment of an organized criminal group. The investigation targets 12 individuals, including Cristian Anton, former chief of staff of Sorin Grindeanu, and the suspicions include receiving bribes between 600 and 1,500 euros for the subjects of the professional driver certification exam.
