The National Railway Company CFR S.A. has announced the completion of the Mureni Tunnel breakthrough, an important step in the modernization of the Brașov-Sighișoara railway line, part of the Rhine-Danube Corridor.
The tunnel, located between the Mureni halt and the Vânători station in Mureș County, has a total length of 740.44 meters, including a natural section of 590 meters and two access trenches. This is a double-track tunnel, built using the New Austrian Tunneling Method (NATM), which ensures constant control of the stability of the face and the deformation of the lining.
The project is intended to allow train traffic at a maximum speed of 160 km/h, thus contributing to the improvement of the railway infrastructure in Romania.
