Diverting traffic from the A10 Motorway to the DN1 is a safer solution than maintaining traffic in both directions on a single carriageway of the motorway during the consolidation works, according to a statement issued by CNAIR on Friday.
The company warns that keeping traffic on the motorway could increase the risk of both carriageways failing and make intervention more difficult in the event of breakdowns. Along a section of approximately 10 kilometers, reducing the speed limit from 130 km/h to 30 km/h could cause major traffic jams.
CNAIR says that vibrations produced by heavy machinery could accelerate the deterioration of the carriageway on which traffic would continue. In addition, the lack of a usable emergency lane could lead to a complete traffic blockage if a truck or a car breaks down.
The company also draws attention to the risk of sudden braking and collisions if the speed limit is not observed. Heavy rains and water infiltration could further weaken the motorway’s structure during the works. CNAIR considers that diverting traffic onto the DN1 allows the works to be carried out under safer conditions and facilitates access for emergency response teams.
