The Public Ministry announced that Ciprian Ciucu, the mayor of Sector 6 and the PNL candidate for the Capital City Hall, made false statements regarding his involvement in the dismantling of a network trafficking in fraudulent identity documents. These accusations arose in the context of an investigation targeting the illegal acquisition of Romanian identity documents by Russian citizens. The Ministry emphasized that Ciucu was not the initiator of this action, which is part of criminal cases opened starting in 2024.

In a Facebook post, Ciucu claimed that he initiated the investigation that led to the General Prosecutor's inquiry, asserting that he discovered an old network over 10 years old, after he changed the leadership of the Local Directorate for the Registration of Persons. He stated that he requested the verification of documents submitted by foreign citizens, accusing that without his intervention, the situation would not have been known. The Public Ministry urged politicians not to associate the institution with political interests, emphasizing that the investigations are not related to public institutions in sector 6.
