A malfunction at CET Sud has left residents of sectors 2, 3, 4, and 5 of the Capital without hot water and heating, with repairs estimated to be completed by January 7.

On Sunday morning, a new malfunction occurred at CET Sud, affecting the supply of hot water and heating for over 1,000 apartment blocks in sectors 2, 3, 4, and 5 of Bucharest, including areas such as Pantelimon and B-dul Basarabia. ELCEN announced that the malfunction was caused by a boiler-turbine, with the temperature of the thermal agent 8 degrees Celsius below normal. The repair is estimated for January 7, followed by a 24-hour period to restore normal parameters. The old equipment, some from the '60s-'70s, has not been modernized due to underfunding, and Termoenergetica's debt to ELCEN amounts to approximately 1.5 billion lei. ELCEN emphasizes the importance of investments in modernizing power plants to prevent major malfunctions. Additionally, the lack of additional production sources has increased the pressure on CET Bucharest Sud in the event of a technical incident.
