Religious leader from Cluj, arrested for rape and sexual assault against young women

Police officers from the Cluj County Police Inspectorate have detained a 66-year-old man, investigated for crimes of rape and sexual assault. The arrest took place following home searches at his properties in Huedin and the commune of Călărașele.

According to information, the man, who held a position as a spiritual leader in a religious group, allegedly committed sexual acts against a 17-year-old girl without her consent. Additionally, between 2023 and 2024, he is said to have sexually assaulted three other young women aged between 15 and 18 during religious meetings held at his home.

After the evidence was administered, the man was detained for 24 hours, and the case prosecutor made a proposal for preventive arrest, which was accepted by the court for 30 days.

Investigations continue to document the entire criminal activity.
