A priest from the Părpănița parish in the town of Negrești, Vaslui County, who was placed in preventive detention at the end of last week on charges of sexual assault, rape of a minor and sexual acts with a minor, has been barred from ministry by the Huși Diocese.
The decision was announced on Tuesday, after diocesan representatives took note of the allegations made in the criminal investigation. Cosmin Gubernat, spokesperson for the Huși Diocese, said that the priest is no longer entitled to officiate any church service. Further canonical measures could be imposed depending on the progress of the case.
According to the police investigation, a 13-year-old minor was allegedly sexually assaulted in June 2026, while another minor, aged 15, was allegedly assaulted between December 2023 and August 2026. The investigation is ongoing, and the allegations will be verified by the authorities.
The Huși Diocese said it distances itself from such acts and expressed solidarity with the victims. The priest was known for social and charitable projects, including humanitarian campaigns and a center for children from vulnerable families or at risk of dropping out of school.
