Cristian Pomohaci, targeted in a new child pornography case

Former priest Cristian Pomohaci is the subject of a new child pornography case being investigated by the Târgu Mureș Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT). On Wednesday, prosecutors and police officers conducted three searches of homes in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, and Șaru Dornei, Suceava County, as part of an investigation targeting four people.

According to DIICOT, between March 2025 and March 2026, the suspects allegedly procured, possessed, stored, and distributed, through online messaging services and social media pages, videos depicting minors aged between 4 and 16 in explicit sexual situations. The people concerned are being questioned at the headquarters of DIICOT – Târgu Mureș Territorial Service.

The investigators received support from the Gendarmerie’s Special Intervention Brigade, the Cluj-Napoca Mobile Gendarmerie Group, and the Suceava County Gendarmerie Inspectorate. The official statement does not name the people under investigation; however, according to information published about the investigation, Cristian Pomohaci is among them.

The former priest is already in pretrial detention in another case. In June, he was detained in a case in which he is being investigated for rape of a minor and sexual assault, an investigation during which searches were conducted at homes in Târgu Mureș.

DIICOT states that the people under investigation benefit from the procedural rights and guarantees provided by law, as well as the presumption of innocence.
