Andrea Chiș, a retired judge and former member of the Superior Council of Magistracy, is the proposal agreed upon by PNL, USR, and UDMR for the Ministry of Justice, in the government that Prime Minister-designate Siegfried Mureșan is set to propose. Chiș confirmed to HotNews.ro that Siegfried Mureșan offered her the position of independent minister in the future cabinet.
The proposal was made by Siegfried Mureșan and accepted by all three parties after, according to coalition sources, Dominic Fritz and Kelemen Hunor had requested the Justice portfolio during the negotiations. Andrea Chiș stated that the prime minister-designate contacted her personally and explained that her apolitical status contributed to her selection.
The Ministry of Justice was previously headed by Social Democrat Radu Marinescu and was subsequently taken over on an interim basis by Liberal Cătălin Predoiu.
At 56 years old, Andrea Chiș was a judge in Cluj for more than 28 years and a member of the SCM between 2017 and 2023. She retired in November 2022. She became publicly known after appearing in the Recorder documentary “Captured Justice,” in which she spoke about problems in the judicial system. After retiring, she taught at Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca, but in December 2025 she announced that she had resigned.
