The National Museum of Romanian History will open on June 12 the micro-exhibition 'Recovering the Past', which will showcase three prehistoric gold bracelets, repatriated in 2024 after being identified at an auction in Monaco and seized in Belgium.
These artifacts, dating from around 1150 BC, were poached and left Romania illegally between 2018-2019. The exhibition highlights the cooperation of the institutions involved in protecting the national cultural heritage, including the General Inspectorate of the Romanian Police and the Prosecutor's Office next to the High Court of Cassation and Justice.
The bracelets are considered prestigious items, having significant weight and unique stylistic details, and it is estimated that they were part of a ritual deposit. Future studies will explore the art of processing precious metals in prehistory and the trade relations of the communities from that period. The micro-exhibition will be open until mid-July, from Wednesday to Sunday, between 10:00 and 18:00.
