A first edition of 'The Hobbit', published in 1937, has been sold at auction for £43,000, more than four times its original estimate. The book, discovered by accident while cleaning a house in Bristol, came from the library of a botanist who would have known the author. It is one of 1,500 copies in print and includes black and white illustrations by Tolkien. The rare find has attracted international bids, with expert Caitlin Riley describing it as "unimaginably rare".
