VfB Stuttgart qualified for the final of the German Cup after a spectacular victory, 2-1 after extra time, against Freiburg. Freiburg opened the scoring after a set piece, when Matthias Ginter sent the ball into the box, and Maximilian Eggestein took advantage and scored from close range.
Stuttgart equalized in the 70th minute, through Undav, and as the score was 1-1 after 90 minutes, the match went to extra time. Tiago Tomas scored the winning goal with a backheel in the 119th minute. VfB Stuttgart – Freiburg 2-1 and the hosts will play for the second consecutive time in the final of the German Cup.
In the grand final on May 23, they will face Bayern Munich at the Olympiastadion in Berlin.
