Robin Fellhauer scored for Augsburg after just 8.4 seconds against Bayern München, setting, according to reports from Germany, a new record for the fastest goal in Bundesliga history. Bayern later came back and restored parity, with the current score at 1-1.
The goal came immediately after kickoff, following an unusual error by goalkeeper Manuel Neuer. Bayern’s players passed the ball back to the goalkeeper, who tried to clear it over Fellhauer, who had come to press. Neuer instead struck Augsburg’s attacker, who recovered the ball and scored into the empty net.
Although the stadium scoreboard showed the fifth second, the goal was officially timed at 8.4 seconds. The previous record was shared by Kevin Volland and Karim Bellarabi, who had scored after nine seconds each. Bayern reacted as the match continued and equalized, keeping the outcome of the Bavarian derby open.
