A police officer responsible for the security of the French national football team has been disciplined by the General Directorate of the National Police (DGPN) with early retirement after receiving a donation of 60,300 euros from Kylian Mbappé, stemming from his bonus for the 2022 World Cup. The donation was reported by a banker, which led to the opening of a judicial investigation. Although the police officer's lawyer stated that the donation was legal and did not need to be declared, the DGPN decided to sanction him for not informing the management about receiving the amount.
The police officer, who was an important figure in the national team and a friend of the Mbappé family, decided to retire on December 31, but will be employed by the FFF on a fixed-term contract. His lawyer contests the sanction, arguing that the donation was legal and that the additional charges have been dropped. The judicial investigation for undeclared work and money laundering is still ongoing, and four other chief brigadiers have also received donations from Mbappé.
