The UN expressed support for Kylian Mbappé, the captain of the French team, after Paraguayan senator Celeste Amarilla made racist statements about him following the match in the round of 16 of the World Cup.

The spokesperson for the High Commissioner, Thameen Al-Kheetan, condemned these statements as despicable and emphasized that the racist incidents during the competition reflect a broader problem in sports. Emmanuel Macron also supported Mbappé, who directly responded to the senator, calling her "a woman worthy of contempt." Amarilla made insulting remarks about Mbappé, including references to his origin, which generated condemnation reactions from the Paraguayan government and FIFA.

In a press conference, Amarilla continued to criticize political and sports leaders, accusing them of a lack of support for Paraguayans. This situation highlighted issues of racism and discrimination in football and global sports.
