FIFA has announced the opening of an investigation following allegations of racist behavior directed against American influencer IShowSpeed, during the match in the round of 16 of the World Cup, in which Argentina defeated Cape Verde 3-2.
The incident took place on July 3 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, and FIFA was immediately informed about it. IShowSpeed, whose real name is Darren Jason Watkins Jr., is a popular influencer, having 57 million subscribers on YouTube and 53 million followers on TikTok. During his broadcasts, personalities such as FIFA President Gianni Infantino and former striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic have appeared.
FIFA emphasized that the tournament represents unity, diversity, and respect, and any behavior that undermines these values is unacceptable. This incident comes after racist comments made by a Paraguayan senator, which were criticized by French striker Kylian Mbappé.
